Although she never went home with the "American Idol" award, Kellie Pickler was one of the best contestants from the show. Kellie Pickler, born June 28, 1986 to Cynthia Morton Pickler and Clyde Raymond Pickler at Stanly Memorial Hospital Albemarle. Her mother was barely 16 when she was expecting her. It was a difficult childhood for Pickler because her father had a relapse to alcohol and drugs, even though her mother had divorced from her in the age of just two. Morton managed to get control of Pickler for two years. But, Pickler acknowledged that not things went according to plan. "I recall my mom and I at the kitchen table and I remarked, 'I'd rather God could have me taken away as I'd prefer to not be alive alongside you.' She took a knife out and placed it upon the counter and told"Here's how to do it after that.' I was in the fourth grade. The girl said "Of course I would never have done anything about the incident. But it has been a long time since I've had emotional bruises." Pickler at the time, 12 years old, was handed over to the Morton's parents following the court case. Pickler was nurtured by her parents throughout her life, citing them as the primary influence on her life. Faye Pickler, the grandmother who cared for her, passed away from lung cancer in 2001. Her grandfather continued to care for Pickler. Pickler is a graduate of North Stanly High School, located in New London (North Carolina).
