Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up living in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began in the field of radio and television reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, she joined the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). Within two years she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. 1981 was the year she began reporting on for the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the chief congressional correspondent. Mitchell became the chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell was host and panelists on the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist during the presidential debates in 1988 in the debate between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell was married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for the John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her role in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's initial White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell reported on a variety of important stories including the Iran Contra scandal, fiscal tax reforms, and arms control. Mitchell traveled with Ronald Reagan many times to attend summits and discuss issues like the Iran Contra controversy.
